Areas of use
Melgisorb® can be used for a wide range of moderately to heavily exuding partial to full thickness wounds such as pressure ulcers, venous and arterial ulcers, diabetic ulcers, donor sites, post-operative wounds, dermal lesions and other wounds inflicted by trauma.
Note: Melgisorb is not indicated for dry wounds, third degree burns or surgical implantations.
How Melgisorb works
Melgisorb absorbs large amounts of exudate, up to18 times its own weight. When absorbing, the alginate fibers form a soft moist gel, providing a moist environment conducive to wound healing. The gel also blocks lateral wicking of exudate thereby reducing maceration. The soft moist gel does not adhere to the wound site, thereby reducing trauma and pain during wear and dressing change. The gel can easily be removed by irrigating with normal saline.
